Day 8: Phuket "BIG TIME!"

As soon as we got up today, we went off to find a dive shop. We were hoping to go out the same day, but all the trips leave at 8 am before the shops even open. You have to set it up the night before. We booked a trip for 2900 baht each ($87) for 2 dives to Racha Yai with Phuket Scuba Club for the next day. Afterwards she pointed us up to a travel agency to try to book a trip to Phi Phi island for the day. Unfortunately, those had already left, so instead we hastily booked a trip to Khai island. Kavita was expecting us to be SCUBA-ing, so she had gone to the beach. We booked the daytrip without finding her first and couldn't find her before they picked us up. Boston and I had to leave her behind, but that ended up being for the best.

Khai Daytrip with Phuket Island Hoppers
This was not one of my better choices, and I blame it on my disappointment for not getting out to Phi Phi and trying to get some snorkeling in. No more rash decisions! They drove us to the other side of the island and took us out to a completely touristy tiny island for 'snorkeling'. It was like taking a 15 year old to the baby pool and saying, "Have fun!" The snorkeling was non-existent. There were truckloads of the same tour - many were Japanese tourists. That was fun people watching, but the only fish in sight were the ones that were there for the food people were feeding them. Later they took us to another snorkeling sight that was better, but we only stayed for 30 minutes. Then back to the silly island for another hour or so. We lay on the beach, slept, and read. I know, you're (Margaret and Adam) thinking, "That sounds nice!" It would have been if I hadn't paid $30 bucks to do it. I could have done this just back at our beach by the hotel (which is what we should have done). I had felt terrible leaving Kavita, but with the very rough boat ride and just bad tour all around, it turned out fine. She had a great day sleeping under an umbrella ("I can't get any darker!") on the beach. We're calling this 'Pulling a Phuket', and we won't let it happen again!

Kata BBQ
We found a great restaurant in LP that had fantastic fresh seafood and was on the beach. Check and check.
Kavita and I had squid and prawns in red curry. Both were really good. Squid is a little tough to chew but pretty tasty! Boston got chicken and french fries. We splurged and got dessert that was more expensive than our meals (not sure why...). Mine came in a bowl made from half a pineapple. Now all I need is a drink with an umbrella in it. Afterwards it was time for....

Daily Massage Report!
We just walked a bit away from the restaurant up the street to Tum Rub Thai Massage. We went in and got 2 full Thai bodies and 1 foot. (You know how this breaks out.) Mine was a woman who had likely lived a bit of a hard life and didn't have a couple of front teeth. But this does not reflect on her massage skills as it was great! Not too hard or soft - just right. Kavita said hers though was so soft she could barely feel it and went to sleep. Boston, on the other hand, was massacured by this small Thai girl. At one point she had him sitting down and leaning over, and her entire body weight was on his back with her feet kicking up in the air. I laughed so hard at this. Afterwards she was sweating and slumped into a chair - exhausted. Poor thing! I give Tum Rub: 4 stars*.

*I think both Boston and Kavita would more likely put it at 2 stars, but they're not running this show, are they?

After this we got drinks at a Rasta bar on the beach near our hotel. After a couple, we were all super tired and headed home. On the way, Boston was on one side of the street while K & I were on the other. We passed by 2 scantily dressed ladies (one of which was definitely a man) who were eyeing B like a piece of meat (or walking $$$). One of them gets on her(or his?) scooter and heads for B. She pulls up and has the following conversation with him.
"Where you go?"
"Home."
"I give massage."
"No, thanks. I just had one."
"Oh. You sure?"
"Yes."

Then she drove off.
I proceeded to have this conversation with him.
"Was that a man?"
"No."
"Was that a prostitute?"
"BIG TIME!"

Oh, Thailand, you dirty girl. We're on to you.

No real pics from today besides these, but I did add a video to day 7 if you didn't see it before.
