Day 16: Siem Reap to Kuala Lumpur "Good bye, Mr. Sith!"

We got up early again to leave Siem Reap on the 8 am (only) flight to KL. I wish we had a bit more time in Cambodia (for things like eating the fried tarantula! - ok, I wouldn't have done that, but I wanted a fun pic), but we were ready to settle for a few days at the beach. I realized why Siem Reap doesn’t have all the honking and traffic like Vietnam; people aren’t really driving cars or even scooters – just plain bikes. I’m not sure they can afford much more. Our great tuk-tuk driver, the fearless Mr. Sith, drove us one last time to the airport. I will miss the Cambodian running man who tells me when to pick up the pace when crossing the road.

12 Hours in Malaysia!

I did want to go see the Batu caves (see my first blog entry), but it was 2 hours from the airport. After all the sight-seeing over the last couple of weeks, we were pretty done. So what’s the alternative? Head to the mall! Yes, we hung out at the mall like junior high kids all day. This time around I was more interested in air conditioning than trolling for boys. Actually we went to the Petronas Towers, largest towers in the world! I hear though that the Saudis are about to surpass it with one of their constructions. We couldn’t go up but took some fun pics from outside. Can you see me?!

The mall was attached to the towers, so we hung out at Zara (shocker!). This mall was just like Galleria or Northpark with Gap, Banana R., Mango, and high-end stores like Gucci and Prada. The only difference would be the large number of women covered head to toe in dark fabric and a veil across their face only showing their eyes. We're in Muslim country, folks! A few stores we went in were selling similar outfits, and I felt a bit 'naked' in just my tshirt and pants; my arms and ankles are exposed! However, there were an equal number of women wearing modern clothing, so I knew we weren't really out of place. Later with more time to kill, we watched a movie, Pelham 123 with bleeped out cuss words but totally in English. There were Malay and another Asian language subtitles at the bottom. The audience would laugh at every sarcastic comment made even when someone was just killed – a little strange. Malaysia, you obviously like your humor dark.

No other pics really from today besides a couple of B in front of the towers.
